A complete travel guide for Capri Italy – what to do, see and eat!

This Capri travel guide includes recommendations on where to stay, what to eat, best things to see and do, and tips for first timers!

Okay, so I wish I could say that I just returned from my amazing trip to Capri, but the truth is that this post is very long overdue. I visited Italy in July of this year and made stops in Florence Capri, Positano and Rome.

You can find my travel guides to Florence and Positano here, but I’ve been denying you my Capri trip details for much too long. So, here goes!
General Tips
- Capri is amazing, but it’s quite expensive compared to other locations in Italy. For this reason, I would recommend a day trip or short stay in Capri.
- Don’t be afraid of the bus! Capri’s streets are very narrow and steep and do not have sidewalks. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by the CUTEST OPEN AIR TAXIS EVER. This was one of my favorite parts about Capri, but they get pricey. The bus is a much cheaper option and it’s easy to figure out: it pretty much stays on the same road up and down the island so just grab it in the correct direction and you’re good.
- Pack your fancy clothes. Capri was definitely the most boujee (yes, that’s a word and that’s how you spell it) places we visited. It’s also notorious for celebrity sightings! There are tons of fun places to shop on the island and there are no shortage of people in very expensive clothes who look like models. (I like to play a fun game called spot the biggest diamond).
Best Things To Do:
- Rent a private boat tour around the grottos. Seriously … this was one of my best memories. We paid about 150 euro for 2 hours. Boat owners wear bright shirts and hang out by the marina … walk up and ask for a ride! Ours recommended his favorite sandwich shop to bring on board (linked below), then served us wine the entire trip.
- Stay out all night and watch the sun rise. If you like to go out, try to stay out until the sun comes up. After the clubs close, locals head to espresso shops to watch the sun rise. JOIN THEM AND PRETEND YOU’RE A LOCAL TOO.
- Speaking of clubs, please do not leave Capri without experiencing Taverna Anema e Core. They have live music that’s a combination of upbeat Italian music and fun renditions of American songs. Picture a bunch of Italians on holiday singing along to live music at the top of their lungs. Pure joy. Here’s the catch: you might have to wait a very long time in a very big crowd to get in. Once you finally get in, you may have to pay 40 euro cover + 20 euro per drink (no, not kidding). All that said, IT’S WORTH IT.
- Splurge on a nice dinner. Da Paolino is still one of the best meals of my life (deets below).
- Hit the beach: we preferred Marina Piccolo the best.
- Shop till you drop: don’t miss the sandal shops that make custom sandals of your choosing by hand while you wait!

Best Things To Eat:
- Da Paolino – I will make it back to Capri in my lifetime just to go here again. Dine under lemon trees. Order the lemon linguine. Do it for me. If you do it please email me all your pictures so I can be extremely jealous.
- Ristorante Panorama – Amazing views and some of the best food! We ordered gnocchi and pizza. So good.
- Le Onde – This one is actually a grocery store by the marina, but their sandwich counter in the back makes a KILLER mozzarella, tomato, prosciutto sandwich.
- R Buonocora – You’ll smell this place before you see it. It’s a gelato shop that makes homemade cones fresh … they’re still warm when you get them!

Okay, now excuse my while I go cry about how much I miss Italy. Let me know in the comments below if you know of any hidden gems in Capri!
